Implement the Policy Conference EC statement on Palestine –  stop the genocide!

Over the past two years, many thousands of Unite member including LE524 branch members, have battled to persuade their union into action to help stop the genocide the Israeli state is carrying against the Palestinian people.

Members were appalled at the lack of action by our union to implement existing policy agreed at successive Policy Conferences over many years, including the campaign for Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS).

They were deeply frustrated by the rejection of so many motions on Palestine by the Executive Council chair over the past two years (passing motions through the EC being the only way to change or develop Unite Policy outside of a Policy Conference).

That is why there were 17 motions on Palestine from many regions, sectors and branches of our union presented at the last Policy Conference (7-11 July 2025)..

An Executive Council statement was drawn up at the Conference which included 20 action points contained in the 17 motions, including the reaffirmation of existing support for the BDS campaign. That statement was passed overwhelmingly.

However, in the face of the continuing ferocious acceleration of the genocide in Gaza, it appears that none of the 20 action points in the EC statement on Palestine have been implemented – after more than two months.

Meanwhile dockers in Morocco, Sweden, Greece, France Genoa and Ravenna are blocking arms shipments to Israel and Italian workers have had a General Strike – as the Liverpool dockers in our legacy union the TGWU boycotted ships from South Africa and Namibia during the apartheid era.

This branch/committees condemns the union’s lack of action on the EC statement and demands a report from the General Secretary on how she will progress all the action points – to the next Executive Council meeting.
