Unite Community Scotland & the Peoples’ Assembly Scotland are hosting a joint meeting as a follow up to our successful one on Universal Credit earlier this year.
This meeting is the People’s Assembly Scotland and UNITE Community Branches in Scotland support for UNITE’s day of action against Universal Credit on 9 December (as the current lock down precludes any active campaigning other than online).
There will be three speakers and the meeting will be chaired by Fife People’s Assembly chairperson Tam Kirby.
Speakers will be:
- Alex Rowley Labour MSP for Mid Scotland and Fife speaking about the effect of the underspend in the Scottish Welfare Fund and how it fits in with the wider challenges of addressing poverty
- Maureen Close from Fife Peoples Assembly/Fife UNITE Community on Universal Credit issues around Scotland.
- Steve Turner Assistant General Secretary UNITE, and chair of the People’s Assembly down south. Among his many responsibilities is UNITE Community Branches. He will speak in that capacity about the union’s “Scrap Universal Credit” campaign, keeping the £20 “extra” for UC claiments that is scheduled to end in March. He will also promote the Community Branches’ Day of Action on 9 December.
We look forward to your attendance on Monday.
